One of the hottest trends today is that of developing outdoor-living spaces – creating outdoor areas that function more like interior spaces, complete with comfortable and functional amenities. It works best when the interior and outdoor spaces transition seamlessly between the two areas – and have the ability to be flexible – to accommodate larger gatherings and/or cook meals while enjoying nature up and close. Here we created that transition by adding a 4-leaf NanaWall system with pocketing doors between the sun room and the new outdoor pavilion.
An entire wing was added to this mid-century modern ranch – with an additional bay for the owner’s car, an outdoor pavilion and clerestory windows, a fireplace and complete outdoor kitchen. The pavilion has pocketed Phantom Screens that allow for cooking, lounging and enjoying a meal free of unwanted flying pests. A waterfall feature was added in the yard, providing a wonderful focal point at the end of the walkway and the sound of running water adds a soothing quality to this outdoor retreat.
The grille station has under-counter refrigeration, a sink for cleaning up, Lynx BBQ and Green Egg. The over-sized ventilation hood helps to whisk away smoke while cooking. The counter-tops and the floating hearth/seating are polished concrete.
